AUSTRIACARD is the partner of choice for payment, government, enterprise, retail and public transport organizations in need of the most sophisticated products and services in digital security. Owing to its strategic focus on growth, the company has succeeded in exporting Austrian technology to a vast array of regions and has become a key player in the industry. The company’s achievement is now being rewarded by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW) and the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ) with the Austrian Export Award in the category “Information and Consulting”.
“We are truly honored to receive this award”, says Konstantinos Lagios, Chief Commercial Officer at AUSTRIACARD, at the evening gala in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier. “In recent years AUSTRIACARD grew to a truly international company as a part of the Lykos AG. We used to be a firm focused primarily on Austria. Now we are a global player and a leader in the CEE markets. The company has production facilities in several European countries and is run by an international management team.” The Austrian Export Award honors annually national companies that operate successfully in foreign markets and, through their efforts, promote Austria’s growth internationally. The award was presented by the Federal Minister of Economy, Reinhold Mitterlehner and the President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Christoph Leitl.
Market leader in CEE
AUSTRIACARD is one of the leading smart cards producing and personalizing companies, whose portfolio includes credit and debit cards, ID cards and tailored solutions. In the payments industry, AUSTRIACARD is present across the CEE region (including Russia and Turkey) as well as in Germany, Scandinavia, Africa and the Middle East. Furthermore, the company carries out global projects for governments. Having founded three subsidiary companies and several sales branches abroad, AUSTRIACARD is able to provide premium services to its customers. The company solidified its position as regional market leader by establishing a smart card personalization center in Krakow and acquiring Provus Kart, Turkey’s largest card-personalizing firm. Additionally, the production site in Bucharest has been expanded significantly to further develop AUSTRIACARD’s leading role in CEE.
Along with more than 300 banks some of the most renowned credit card firms like Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club and JCB trust in AUSTRIACARD’s quality and technology. Customers value that AUSTRIACARD adheres to the highest security standards for its card production and has long-term expertise in handling sensitive data. Its medium size enables the company to be flexible regarding every customer’s individual requirements. At the same time AUSTRIACARD has the necessary resources to carry out several projects with high production volumes simultaneously.
AUSTRIACARD is responsible for some of the most prestigious projects within the industry. For example, AUSTRIACARD developed for the Nigerian government a globally unique smart card solution: ID cards featuring a wide array of innovative applications such as e-ID and e-Health, biometric authentication as well as (EMV) payments. More than three million of these ID cards were delivered in the last year alone. For the Czech bank Česká spořitelna, AUSTRIACARD designed the ACE Mobile Tag – a technology solution, which combines payment cards with mobile payments by enabling NFC (Near Field Communication) on mobile devices. Moreover, AUSTRIACARD is one of only four companies worldwide producing the Oyster Card, London’s public transport Travel Card. There are 8 million Oyster Cards produced annually.
The Austrian Export Award
The Austrian Export Award is presented each year by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW) together with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ). The ranking is determined by an independent expert jury based on the companies’ export activity in previous years. The prices are bestowed in six categories.
AUSTRIACARD is a leading company in the field of secure transactions and digital security, and renowned for its smart card development and production business. Some 60 million cards are produced per year with a team of approximately 400 employees. Two thirds of the cards produced are exported, primarily to Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Middle East.
AUSTRIACARD is part of the family-owned Lykos Group, Vienna. The Group also comprises Inform, the regional leader in the information management and document processing business, founded in Athens in 1897.
