INFORM LYKOS, a member of AUSTRIACARD HOLDINGS, was successfully selected for the 2nd generation smart cards for tacho gen2 by the Ministry of Transport & Infrastructure. The contract will be for 2 years with the possibility of extension for additional 6 months and a total value of 1 million euros.

The 2nd generation Tachograph Card is connected to a satellite based GPS (GPS) tracking service, facilitating the monitoring of drivers’ compliance at a European level and contains two (2) secure identification certificates.

Specifically, the Intelligent Tachograph function is based on four types of smart cards that allow different functions:

– Driver Card: Every driver of a vehicle equipped with a Digital / Intelligent Tachograph is required to hold a driver card that will insert it throughout its working life so that the driver’s activities are recorded on both his card and on the Digital / Intelligent Tachograph device
– Company Card: The company card gives the owner of vehicles equipped with Digital / Intelligent Tachograph access to information recorded by Digital / Intelligent Tachograph.
– Workshop card: The workshop card allows the workshop technician to modify the parameters of the Digital / Intelligent Tachograph. For added security comes with a PIN code.
– Control Card: The control card gives control bodies access to data recorded by the Digital / Intelligent Tachograph.

INFORM LYKOS will assume the role of the certified authority for the implementation of the Digital Tachograph in Greece and the role of the card personification organization.

AUSTRIACARD (also a member of the AUSTRIACARD HOLDINGS Group), which has already successfully implemented a large number of international and complex projects on ID cards, health cards and generally smart security cards for Government Organizations in Europe, Asia & Africa, will manufacture the actual Tachograph smart cards.

Card issuance is key to the operation of the digital / intelligent tachograph system as this process guarantees the security of the entire system. For this reason each card contains a digital certificate, while issuance checks ensure, the uniqueness of the cards at European level (Tachonet).
